Offsite Events
Every once in a while you need to get the employees out of the work place and do something fun. This may be as little as a yearly Holiday Party or as often as once per month. I recommend having at least one off-site get together each quarter. Employees need time away from work to get to know one another and build organic connections.
What to do?
- Bowling
- Company Picnic
- Laser Tag
- Puzzle Rooms
- Holiday Parties
Some ideas for activities at offsite events are:
- Team Building Activities
- Individual Awards and Recognition
- Time for Socializing
- A Group Meal
What Not To Do
One important precaution for company events. Special care and consideration should be taken at facilities or events where alcohol is served. A good way to handle this is to have employees pay for their own alcoholic drinks if they choose to, if you do choose to purchase alcohol, make sure it is only 1-2 drinks.
If you have employees who are under 21, make sure you do not purchase alcohol for any underage employees. If your group has employees under 21, I recommend not serving any alcohol at events. An approved bartender should always be onsite and serving if alcohol is offered.
Most employees will enjoy responsibly, but there will sometimes be a case where someone does over do it. Always make sure employees are offered a safe ride home at the companies expense.
Special T-Shirts
You can create a fun, cute, or crazy t-shirt for your business a few times each year, on special events like anniversaries, or as often as monthly, and have employees wear these on a certain day. If you wear uniforms, choose a day each week that your employees can wear any t-shirt from the past fun days. This gives you some swag you can hand out to employees(employees love swag), but it also gives you a day of fun, and a weekly day where people have the freedom to express themselves as individuals by the t-shirt they choose to wear.
Fun “Day” Celebrations
There are many national calendar website, like this one, which list fun days for every month. Choose a few days a year and do something special.
- May the 4th Be With You
- Talk Like a Pirate Day
- Rescue Dog Day
- National Pizza Day
You can order pizza for National Pizza Day, dress like a Star Wars character for May the 4th Be With You, or tie this in with the “Fun T-Shirts” above by handing out a themed shirt on this day!
